By trying to understand a sentence word-by-word, they get caught up with the parts andlose sight of the whole. A good reader, however will always group words into phrases that make sensetogether. Consider the following example:To train yourself/to read in phrases/use the natural rhythm/of the language/toguide you.How long a phrase you can take in at one time depends on the individual. In the beginningconcentrateon small units ofmeaning.Asyouget morepracticeand becomeamoreefficientreader,you will be able to take in longer and longer units at a time.ReadingcomprehensionAnswer the following questions!Introduction (para.1-5)1. The author begins this article with a detailed description of his personal experience.2. Phrases, which can be called “sense groups”, are the basic unit of meaning. Poor readers sometimes go too slowly. By trying to understand a sentence word-by-word, they get caught up with the parts and lose sight of the whole. A good reader, however will always group words into phrases that make sense together. I was tempted to let loose with. I was about to express my displeasure by saying. 3. blurting out how you feel saying how you feel without considering the possible consequences 4. there are ways you can stand up for yourself there are ways you can defend yourself when being criticized 5. comic strips that poke fun at the IRS comic strips that make joke about the IRS 6. they come across as excuses they sound like ( appear to be ) excuses 7. the highway construction was stalled again the highway construction was put off again 8. commuting to work traveling every day between home and one’s place of work I spend over an hour each day commuting to work 9. That did it. That was too much and hence put an end to the conversation. 10. Just because you aren’t seeing eye to eye doesn’t mean you’re enemies.
