When youdo this, you are actually practicing a very important reading technique: skimming for main ideas.Skimming for main ideas gives you a quick overview of the topic, the main idea, and the main pointswhich the author has to make. This gives you a general context which will help you to take ininformation more efficiently on your second, more thorough reading. This technique is particularlyeffective when dealing with an information text.80

This gives you a general context which will help you to take in information more efficiently on your second, more thorough reading.
