Review Text A and Text B in Unit One.【本讲课程的内容】一、PreviewAsa learnerof English,you arepartofahugeandgrowinggroupof peopleallovertheworld.InText B, you will read about the population of English speakers -who they are and what they useEnglishfor-and discoverthatknowingEnglish enablesyoutotalktopeoplefromall overthe world.However, as the author of Text A explains, knowing the grammar and vocabulary of a language is notenough to communicate successfully.Different cultures havedifferent communication styles.So,whencommunicating with people from other cultures, you need an understanding of each other 's culture aswell as a language in common.二、Pre-readingactivities1.Look atthetitleandguesswhatthepassageis about2.Go over thefirst paragraph quickly and find out who the author is. And they don't know why you state the fact when you meet them. Instead, you only greet tothem, make a comment, or givea wish for what they'regoingto do.(2)Gestures, facial expressions, body languageIt is hard for you to speak freely with your hands tied behind. It makes you relax when you arespeaking English.三、Text-related information1. Review Text A and Text B in Unit One. 【本讲课程的内容】 一、Preview As a learner of English, you are part of a huge and growing group of people all over the world. In Text B, you will read about the population of English speakers –who they are and what they use English for—and discover that knowing English enables you to talk to people from all over the world. However, as the author of Text A explains, knowing the grammar and vocabulary of a language is not enough to communicate successfully. Different cultures have different communication styles. So, when communicating with people from other cultures, you need an understanding of each other’s culture as well as a language in common. 二、Pre-reading activities 1. Look at the title and guess what the passage is about. 2. Go over the first paragraph quickly and find out who the author is. Is she a Japanese born and educated in USA or an American married to a Japanese? 3. Have you ever talked with a native speaker of English? What problems have you encountered in talking with a foreigner? 4. Ask the students to discuss in groups about cultural difference in communication between Chinese and people of the Great Britain or the United States. 5. Introduce some differences: (1) Greetings eg: 中文里打招呼:吃了吗?您(你)上哪里呀?In English: Hello! /Hi! /Nice day, isn’t it?. It is difficult for the foreigners to understand the Chinese greeting “去吃饭呀”because they think it is a fact. And they don’t know why you state the fact when you meet them. Instead, you only greet to them, make a comment, or give a wish for what they’re going to do.
