Unit 11 Shaka-King of the Zulus Teaching objectives To make students understand that the text is a narrative that records a turning point in the life of the character being portrayed; To acquaint the students with basic techniawues of narrative-what the focus is how suspense is created and a strong ending is provided: To help students understand the general style ofthe essay To supply students with the background knowledge of the Zulu nation and its military leader Shaka. To help students understand "Inversion"and provide enough exercises to help them master the basic grammatical rules: To supply students with opportunities to practice their basic language skills and Teaching Procedure About 4sessions (8 class hours)are needed for this unit 1 Pr adin Test student reading materials and see if they understand the Zulu Ask students to read the title and anticipate the the subject matter of the text and the possible information the text may cover 2.Study of Text I: Ask students to sum up the main idea of the text. Ask students to pick out the tuming point in the narrative Ask students to pick out transitional sentences in the text Analyzing the structure of the text.:involving the students in summing up the techniques of narrative writing. 3.Assignment ◆Review Text I. ◆Preview Text II. 2nd session 1.Continuation of the study of Text 1: Allow students some time to ask questions on Text 1. Focus on language points of the text. 2.Study of Text I: Ask questions on Text II to help students better understand elementary narrative nort narrative wrting 3.Assignment Review Text 1 and Text II. Pre-reading questions: Test students on the background reading materials and see if they understand the Zulu nation and their military leader Shaka. Ask students to read the title and anticipate the the subject matter of the text and the possible information the text may cover. 2. Study of Text I: Ask students to sum up the main idea of the text. Ask students to pick out the turning point in the narrative. Ask students to pick out transitional sentences in the text. Analyzing the structure of the text.: involving the students in summing up the techniques of narrative writing. 3.Assignment  Review Text I.  Preview Text II. 2 nd session 1. Focus on language points that might be difficult to the students.
