Help students understand the techniques the writer applies in his exposition by giving some examples Ask students to sum up the main idea of the text. Book Four Unit 10 From Composer to Interpreter to Listener Teaching objectives:  To help students understand the formal style of this expository essay;  To help students master the techniques the writer applies in his exposition;  To make students understand the terms composer, interpreter, and listener;  To make students understand the interrelationship among these three terms;  To acquaint the students with basic knowledge of symphony;  To help students understand the important role of listeners in the furtherance of music;  To supply students with background knowledge about some famous composers in the world.  To supply students with background knowledge about one of the most popular forms of music-jazz  To supply students with opportunities to practice their basic language skills. Time Allocation and Teaching Procedure: About 4 sessions (8 class hours) are needed for this unit. 1 st session 1. Pre-reading questions: Test students on the background reading materials and see if they have a general idea of the terms composer, interpreter, and listener, and if they can tell the relationship among the terms. 2. Study of Text I: Ask students to point out words, phrases or sentences in the text that indicate the style is formal.
