1 Unit Six: Predators, parasites and other Relationships Teaching objectives:  To make students understand that predators not only include lions, wolves but also robins, frogs, and humans etc  To help students understand the relationship between predators and their preys, parasites and their hosts.  To help students understand the biological control: the use of predators and parasites to control the number of some pests.  To make students understand that the close association between parasite and host is an example of symbiosis.  To help students understand the importance of ecosystem’s balance.  To supply students with opportunities to practice their basic language skills. Time Allocation and Teaching Procedure: About 4 sessions (8 class hours) are needed for this unit. 1 st session 1. Pre-reading questions: Test students on the background reading materials and see if they know these terms: predator, parasite and ecosystem and the relationship between predators and their preys, parasites and their hosts. 2. Study of Text I: Ask students to sum up the main idea of the text. Analyzing the examples of biological control to illustrate the importance of ecosystem’s balance. 3.Assignment  Review Text I.  Preview Text II.  Read Text III. 2 nd session 1. Continuation of the study of Text I: Allow students some time to ask questions on the text. Focus on language points of the text. 2.
