2.What is a Sentence? A sentence is a group of words that you use to communicate your ideas in writing or in speech. (function) It is a complete,independent unit of thought and consists of two main parts:a subject and a predicate (form)

The predicate makes a statement about the subject.It consists of a verb and its modifiers or comp/ements.The verb is the most important part of the predicate.It expresses action or a state of being.A complement is a word or words used to complete the meaning of the verb

Simple sentence:containing a single main clause. Compound sentence:containing at least two coordinate clauses. Complex sentence:containing at least one main clause and one subordinate clause. Compound-complex sentence: two or more coordinated independent clauses with at least one complex clause. Declarative:a sentence that makes a declaration. Interrogative:a sentence of inguiry that asks for a reply. Imperative:a sentence that gives advice or instructions or that expresses a request or command. Exclamatory:a sentence that expresses strong feelings by making an exclamation
