Early colonial Era- Beginnings to 1700 值,、A 1607-Jamestown was founded in Virginia. By the end of the year, starvation and disease caused death among 73 of the original 105 settlers 1608-110 more colonists arrived at Jamestown 1616-Asmallpox epidemic decimated many Native Americans 1619- Twenty Africans were brought by a Dutch ship to Jamestown and sold Into slavery 1620- The Mayflower ship landed in Cape Cod, Massachusetts. They signed the Mayflower Compact establishing a local government based on majority rule 1675-1676- King philips War erupted in New england between colonists and Native American as a result of tensions over colonist's expansion 600 English colonists and 3, 000 Native Americans were killed 1682-French explorer La Salle claims the Louisiana Territory for France 1692-The Salem Witch Trials- Hysteria griped the village of Salem, Massachusetts, as witchcraft suspects were arrested and imprisoned 150 are accused, 20 people were executed
