Concept Tinnitus and deafness are auditory disturbances caused by various factors.Tinnitus is mainly characterized by a ringing in the ears which disturbs normal hearing or sleeping of the patient.Deafness refers to they are always mentioned together

Etiology and Pathogenesis Fire flaring-up along the meridians due to the Undernourishment of the ears stagnation of liver qi Excess type Obstruction of qi passage due to the stagnation of phlegm Tinnitus in a mild case,deafness in Deficiency of kidney a severe case essence failing to nourish the ears Deficiency type Lucid Yang failing to ascend due to deficiency of the spleen Failure of essence qi and stomach to ascend

1.Flaring-up of Liver Fire Main Manifestations:Ringing in the ears as though hearing the tide,or the sound of wind and thunder,hearing ability becoming better and worse,tinnitus and deafness becoming serious after emotional disturbances Accompanying Symptoms and Signs:Pain in the ears,headache,dizziness,flushed face and redness of the eyes,a bitter taste with a dry throat,restlessness with irritability,disturbed- sleep,uneasy feeling in the hypochondriac region,constipation,dark urine Tongue and pulse:A red tongue coating ,a rapid and wiry pulse

Accompanying Symptoms and Signs:lassitade,general weakness,a poor appetite,abdominal fullness after eating,loose stool,a sallow complexion,pale lips and tongue #Tongue and Pulse:A pale tongue with thin white coating,a weak pulse

Acupoint Selection Select Yifeng(SJ17),Tinghui (GB2) Zhongzhu (SJ3)and Xiaxi(GB43)as main points.Add Taichong (LR 3)and Qiuxu (GB40)for heat in the liver and gallbladder,Fenglong (ST40)and Laogong(PC8)for stagnation of phlegm heat Shenshu(SL23)and Taixi (KI3)for deficiency of kidney Yin,Pishu(BL20) and Zusanli(ST36)for deficiency of the spleen and stomach
