(C)1994-2022 China Academie Joumal Electronie Publishing House.All rights reserved.http://www.enki.net

A Report on the Translation of Uncommon Sense Teaching: Practical Insights in Brain Science to Help Students Learn (Chapters 1&2) Abstract The source text of this report is an excerpt from Uncommon Sense Teaching: Practical Insights in Brain Science to Help Students Learn,co-authored by Barbara Oakley et al.The book introduces some brain science knowledge involved in the learning process and provides educators with relevant teaching strategies. The book consists of ten chapters, while the translator selected chapters one and two Building Memory”and“Teaching Inclusively”,as the source text. The source text belongs to the expository text featured with rigorous structure, vivid explanation, and fluent expression. This translation practice has adopted Toury's translation norm theory as the guidance, especially from the perspective of "adequacy"and"acceptability"of the initial norms,to explore the English-Chinese translation methods of the expository texts combined with case analysis. During translation, terms and implicit logical relation should be handled by means of"adequate translation",for which the translator adopted the methods of annotation and explicitation;while common sayings, static expressions, and sentences with dash should be dealt with through "acceptable translation",for which the methods of free translation, conversion, and restructuring were applied respectively. The translator hopes that the translation methods discussed in this report will provide practical references for the translation projects of the same text type in the future. Key words:translation norm theory;implicit logical relation;common sayings; (C)1994-2022 China Academie Joumal Electronie Publishing House. All rights reserved.http://www.enki.net

Chapter 1 Introduction This chapter will briefly introduce the following three parts:the background and significance of the translation project, and the general framework of this report It provides the target reader a better understanding of the project's macro and micro background,as well as its significance. 1.1 Background of the Translation Project For a long time, teaching has been treated as an inscrutable craft, with each practitioner fashioning unique practices from intuition and experience.Nowadays it's commonly known that teaching is a necessary way to impart knowledge and inspire students'initiatives(Agarwal&Bain,2019,p.23).Meanwhile,the teaching methods of educators should be constantly updated to adapt to the new era, like all professions.pedagogy can be improved through science, research.and technology Over the past decades,a fixed test-oriented teaching model has been established in China, which focused on imparting knowledge to students while ignoring their development. With the further reform of education, government advocates the learning approach of independence.cooperation, and inquiry.and stresses that modern science and technology should be the theoretical support for teaching. It is widely known that the brain is geared for learning and adaptation, all education theories and practices are aimed at exploring the potential of students brains and improving their learning ability. In foreign countries, great progress has been made in applying brain science to the education field.Setting"brain science" and"education"as keywords,so over 20.000 relevant books with an average rating of four stars are shown on Amazon. Most of the buyers are engaged in educational institutions and parents who care about their children's education. This novel teaching method combines the knowledge of physiology, psychology, and pedagogy, which will make it easier for teachers to teach and for students to lear (C)1994-2022 China Academie Joumal Electronie Publishing House. All rights reserved.http://www.enki.net

Uncommon Sense Teaching belongs to this kind of interdisciplinary book.It translates a wealth of knowledge about cognitive science into action, equipping teachers with a better understanding of the science of learning and offering practical strategies to help students learn.Out of the desire to introduce fresh teaching methods to the public in China, the translator chose this book as the translation material. 1.2 Significance of the Translation Project As far as the practical significance is concerned,China now has been carrying out education reform and urging advanced teaching methods. It is necessary to introduce some premium works about teaching into a local area, which enables educators to implement teaching methods from a more comprehensive angle and activates the learners'interests drastically.Searching on the CNKI,the translator notices there are few translation reports on the topic of pedagogy and brain science This translation project and the Chinese version of the source text could be meaningful and helpful for developing an interdisciplinary framework and enriching the main achievements of educational methods. What's more, this project sheds light on the translation practice of expository text.Taking Toury's translation norm theory as guidance, the translator quests the translation strategies and methods suitable for the source text and provides sound suggestions, thus precisely introducing the professional information to the target reader in an understandable way,and offering reliable references to future studies on the translation of expository texts. 1.3 Structure of the Report This report is composed of five chapters. The first chapter includes a preliminary understanding of the translation project's background and significance. as well as the overall structure of this report. The second chapter introduces the authors and content of the book, then analyzes its linguistic features. The third 2 (C)1994-2022 China Academie Joural Electronie Publishing House. All rights reserved.http://www.enki.net
