Main Types of word meaning Grammatical meaning (1)Word-class: different parts of speech of words. (2)Inflectional paradigm: for nouns,the plural form and the genitive case form; for main verbs,the verb endings:-s,-ing,-ed; for adjectives and adverbs,the comparative-er and the superlative -est form of gradable ones

Lexical Meaning denotative meaning: also called conceptual/cognitive/logical meaning, involving the relationship between a linguistic unit (esp.a lexical item)and the non-linguistic entities to which it refers. It is a kind of word-to-world relationship. Denotative meaning of a word is the central factor in linguistic communication,which makes communication possible
