In reality, of course, New York is not a dying city. The eight million people who huddle together on that tiny rock do so through choice, (4)and while they are aware there is an

undiagnosed ailment in the city's bloodstream. they are willing to see it through.5 It must have been fun to live in New York once;perhaps it will be again.Those of us who are quitting are the impatient ones who lack the imagination to believe that the bright dream will glow again.6 The sad aspect of my departure was that there was so little sadness connected with it,and after ten years it seemed to me that I should have looked back with some slight mistiness in my eves A lot of literature has been written on this subject -the disenchanted New Yorker -and I've read much of it,but none of the cases seem to fit precisely my
