CIMS(AU415) Xiaohong Pang Case Study:National Logistics Management (Report due on Week 5) This case describes the operations of a(non-asset-based)third-party-logistics(3PL) service provider,National Logistics Management (NLM),and a growth decision faced by the company.This case also provides an excellent overview of the 3PL industry and how the industry makes use of information technology (IT)to provide logistics services. Therefore,it is important to view this case study as an integrated part of the course material,not merely a story. When you start reading it,please make sure that you fully understand the definition of the following terminology: 3PLs:make sure you know the difference between asset-based 3PLs and non-asset-based 3PLs Business-to-business (B2B)services Automated reverse auction exchange Premium freight Expedited managed system(EMS) To work on your report,please first study the process that(non-asset-based)3PLs facilitate.Please draw a picture of the process of NLM's Expedited Management System, from the shipper to the receiver and indicate the role NLM plays in the shipping process. After understanding the process,discuss what a customer would use a 3PL service, such as NLM.What are the advantages and disadvantages in using a 3PL?As customers move towards using 3PLs,which players in the industry benefit and which players lose? In your report,you are strongly encouraged to discuss how the Internet has revolutionized the 3PL industry. Finally,among the three options for growth given in the case:organic growth, proactive partnership,and new playing fields,name the option that you recommend for NLM.Please clearly discuss your reasons why your recommended option is better than the others. Presentation style:informal essay.Following the structure suggested above to state your points.
