Are the performers fluent in their lines? 1)Speech-plan sharing(continuation from last week) Steps: a. Invite students to the stage and talk about their plans for the speeches they have been working on in pairs b Divide the audience into two groups, one of which will raise questions to the speakers, and the other make comments and give suggestions. They can refer to the yardsticks centering around the"matter, method and manner"aspects of public speeches c. The instructor winds up this activity by making comments and giving suggestions, with which students can further improve and polish their speeches that they will have a final"show next week Range of Speech topics ① Informative Introduce a concept/phenomenon/theory from the study of your major/from popular culture ② Persuasive Try to raise fund from an imagined audience for your business ideas/ charity project. ③ Combination Make a commencement speech at the 2048 Fudan Universit Commencement Ceremony 2)Compare two speeches Speech one: Winston Churchills speech"We shall fight on the beaches" during WWII Speech two: Theresa May's first statement as Prime Minister in Downing Street

Have students form groups of four and draft an election speech respectively; b One representative from each group delivers the speech they have prepared. The speech should be less than 2 minutes long 4)Follow-up Activity I Time for Vote(Continuation of mock election speech"above) Purpose: to analyze what makes a good speech Steps: a. After the presentation of all candidates in the mock election activity, each of the audience members will have three votes for them, one for the president and two for the vice-president b. When the vote is complete, ask some students to elaborate on the reasons for their choice and try to analyze the strengths and weaknesses of each speaker 5)Follow-up Activity 2 Purpose: to polish students' ability to better organize ideas to call students'attention to body language and tone
