Academic Writing PRACTICE TASK 1:According to the checking questions bellow,analyze the concluding paragraph in this sample.Reread your concluding paragraph from EP rough draft Following the guidelines from this handout,evaluate your concluding paragraph.Wha can be improved?Ask following questions: Sample The falling birth rate in China is leading to a variety of problems in different areas of society.To deal with these issues,it is urgent for the goverment to conduct reformations against the super high living expense for raising children,establish policies beneficial for expectant/nursing mothers,and create ahealthy environment for the younger generation.All these changes in social institutions are never easy to implement.However,no important changes take place overnight.This is still the fundamental direction toward which the country should be bound. 1.Does it have a topic sentence that brings the readers back to the main idea/topic? 2.Do the following sentences synthesize or summarize the main points in the body of the essay(solutions),not just simply repeating them? 3.Doyou see an effective closing sentence that provides asense of closure (suggestion, opinion,or prediction)? 4.Did you use a transitional phrase(in conclusion,to sum up,etc.)Is it really necessary? If not,remove it. 5.Are there any new ideas that should not be included in the conclusion?Ifyes,remove them 6.Are they any parts that should have been included in other parts of this essay (background or body paragraphs)?Ifyes,remove them
