I Teaching Content General survey of Lesson 14 in Advanced English( BookII) Loving and Hating New York I. Teaching Objectives A Enable students to become acquainted with global nformation about New York including Manhattan, Broadway, Greenwich Village, Central Park, the Fifth Avenue, Wall Street &s Tin Pan Alley. B Help students to obtain basic knowledge by means of comprehension questions on content and analyze the basic structure of the text. C. Make students figure out the essential theme of the article Loving and hating New York becomes a matter of alternating moods, often in the same day. The place constantly exasperates, at times exhilarates III Teaching Requirements A. Students are required to get familiar with New York looking through some materials before class and describe its important role in economy finance, transportation and commercial trade of U.S.A B. Let students point out the main idea of the whole text, the way the author constructed the text and the rhetorical devices employed in the text. C. Ask students to make a discussion on whether to choose to live in New York and write a composition describing a Chinese city. IV Teaching Approaches A. Arouse students,enthusiasm in order to cultivate their abilities into full play by demonstrating their points of B. Apply multi-media English teaching methods by means of showing slides consisting of narration and precious photos from National Geography and Internet

Answer: New york Step 2: Students are requested to present their relevant information about New York and its current international status and reputation. (3 minutes Step 3: Summarize students'ideas combined with some related background materials(20 minutes Step 4: Give brief replies to questions on content using students'own words as much as possible 10 minutes) Step 5: Illustrate how the text is composed.( 5 minutes Step 6: Divide the students into five groups and require them to participate in the discussion on whether to choose to live in N.Y. 10 minutes
