Unit 1: Never Say goodbye Background information: 1. Family moving The ever-decreasing number of large families in some countries like Britain an America is related to an increase in the migration of population. In the past decades people in Britain have moved from Scotland and the north of England to the Southeast Southwest. East and Central England In America, about 40,000,000 people are mov ing to another place every year, which means that a family moves every five or six years. Young people leave their hometowns and go to the big cities for better jobs and living environments Now things are changing, more and more people are mov ing to live in the suburbs of big cities. Big cities are becoming more crowded and polluted, with a higher rate of crime, less friendly neighborhoods and insufficient public recreational facilities. Meanwhile, in the countryside or small towns with a slower pace of life people can enjoy a more harmonious and comfortable life and have easy access to the facilities available in big cities 2. An episode about‘ saying goodbye” It happened on the morning of a summer day in November, 2002 in Bondi,a small and beautiful town in Sydney, Australia. I was on a two-day visit to Dr. vale Horniman, who used to teach me English Literature in Central China Normal University in Wuhan. Having just been to the town church, we were walking in the quiet street when we met across a lady in her eighties, an old acquaintance of miss Horniman. After the conventional introduction and mutual greetings, I politely said See you as we were leaving her. " No, no, no! said Miss Horniman instantaneously You won't see her! Say good bye! Was it a humor? Or a philosophical truth? Anyway, that was the first time I began to reflect on the actual meaning of saying Goodbye 三、 try to answer the following questions: 1.
