Lesson nine The most dangerous game I. Teaching obiective After learning this unit, students are supposed to 1. get familiar with the rules of word formation 2. get familiar with some grammatical points, 3. retell the text as a whole 4. have a thorough understanding of the whole text: The most dangerous Game 5. get a list of the new words and expressions and be able to use them freely in writing and daily conversation IL Listening and speaking activities 1. Listen to the recording of the text and fill in the blanks about the main ideas of the article 2. Learn something from it on the problem of beliefs and discuss the questions on the text IlL. Reading Comprehension and language activities 1. Pre-reading discussions: 1)What do you think of self-interest? 2)What do you think of the text: The Most Dangerous Game 2. Background knowledge Russian ruling dynasty俄国统治朝代 Russian ruling dynasty 91613-1917)began with the accession of Czar Michael (1596-1645; Ruled 1613-1645 )and ended with the abdication of Nicholas Two during the russian revolution. Man catcher A man catcher is a two-pronged pole arm. Each prong is curved to encircle a humanoid creature of man size. It is not used for large wild animals. The man catcher has spikes and sharpened edges to both damage the opponent and prevent the use of hands and arms. Anyone caught in a man catcher is less likely to escape the more they struggle 3. Text analysis: Part one( paras. 1-21)In the first round, General Zaroff can easily kill Rainsford and end the game, but he decides to save rainsford for another day Part two( paras. 22-28) In the second round, Rainsford scores a point General Zaroff is slightly Part three( paras29-31)In the third round, Zaroff loses his best hound Part three(paras29-3 1)In the fourth round, he loses Ivan.
