Listening and speaking activities 1. Listen to the recording of the text and fill in the blanks about the main ideas of the article 2. Background knowledge: Black comedy is otherwise known as black humor and possibly first appeared in the late 1950s and 1960 s in American literature. It is a dark comedy and finds great humor in what most people regard as inappropriate subject matter. Black comedy mocks serious topics such as death and religion and makes fun of various organized, logical aspects of our everyday existence. It is often grotesque and morbid. The closest example of black comedy in the theatre is a small number of plays that fall under the genre of tragic farces 3.
