Evaluation on Lu Meixi's persuasive speech By… Student No: This was our third speech in this semester which is a persuasive type. All of my Chinese classmates had all fully prepared their speeches and had chosen different and interesting topics. Since I chose quite a sensitive topic for my own speech-"Let's be better women",the most interesting topics for me this time were also the sensitive ones. The one which I would like to evaluate now is the speech of my dear desk mate Lumeixi. And her topic was "Facebook should be unblocked in China". The speech about Facebook problem in China was long-awaited for me and our other classmates. And since all the people in our class are fond of learning English, travelling abroad and meeting new friends, this topic about the biggest international social network-Facebook, was hearty welcome that day.The audience,I might say,was already motivated to think that Facebook must be unblocked in China. There might have been some people who thought differently, but the majority of the audience all agreed with Lumeixi's main statement. Therefore, I suppose, that she chose a very fortunate topic. What I really admired in the beginning of her speech delivery is that she used an online search system to show the audience in practice that when you type“为什么禁止”(Why is.. forbidden?)on Baidu.com,one of the first suggested results that comes out is“为什么s禁止 Facebook"(Why is Facebook forbidden?).And I think that firstly,it was a good start for the speech delivery and secondly,it gave the audience more evidence that the problem really exists and that many people in China are concerned about it. Further on,Lumeixi in her speech introduced us to the main aspects of the problem, the reasons and even more, she discussed the harms and loss that ban of Facebook might bring to us. Lumeixi said that the Internet has made the world a smaller place by giving people a global meeting place. She also added that by finding common ground on intellectual and ideological levels,we can come to recognize that we have more in common with other cultures. And If the Internet is censored,we are in less of a situation to learn about others.I agree with her on that and I think this is the main disadvantage of banning the Facebook. Lumeixi's suggested solution was simultaneously realistic and useful. We,as simple people, can't really do anything about the main policies in nowadays China, even though we could find some ways to unban the blocked websites and destroy the Great China Firewall, like go striking or start a revolution;this would be dangerous, childish and risky. So the only thing that is safe now is a small application installed on everyone's computer, which Lumeixi so kindly suggested. So in the whole,I think that Lu Meixi's presentation on Facebook problem was really interesting and helpful.I enjoyed listening and learned from her at the same time
