Evaluation on Lu's persuasive speech By… Student No:... Lu,the second speaker of all, brings us a real feast of persuasive speech with the topic, Don't Stay Up Late. I would like to start with the some impressive aspects of his speech: 1.Introduction:the use of pie chart and bar chart at the beginning, showing clear statistics and tendency, constructs a transparent picture about the fact that people usually stay up late, and efficiently draws the audience's attention. 2.Conclusion:Lu teaches us a good lesson about typical strong ending, with the astonishing news about a young girl who died at a young age because of the bad habit of staying up.This not only shows his careful design of the ending part, but also reinforces the impression left in the audience's minds. 3.Voice Speaking manners:his confident speaking manner together with the loud voice enables him to be infectious.Instead of reading the manuscripts and failing to deliver the information to the audience,Lu communicates with the audience with continuous eye contact, which enables him to touch and affect the audience, and in return, helps the audience to concentrate on the speaker. Apart from this,I guess the following flaws could be improved: 1.Topic:Though quite close to our life, the topic he chooses might be "too persuasive".That is,the answer to the question discussed, whether we should stay up late,is not controversial enough that I cast doubt on the necessity to persuade the audience to buy this idea that we should not stay up late. What's more, the speaker confuses the concept“sleep late”with the concept“stay up late”,which leads to constant mistakes in his speech. 2.Language:the speaker does speak with fluent English. However, some inaccurate pronunciation and intonation limits the efficiency of delivering his idea to the audience to some degree. To sum up,the mature and skillful manner sets a good example for us,even the above imperfectness cannot wipe out the slightest power and persuasiveness of his speech. I have been persuaded as a listener, but also studied a lot as a learner
