OBJECTIVES o To improve students' profess ional English language proficiency through exercises in comprehens ion and text appreciation and promote students' abilities in reading and translating the profess ional English data To enlarge students vocabulary by about 1000 word O To consolidate students' knowledge in the usage of professional words, idiomatic expressions, sentence structures, collocations and other grammar items, and help students use them correctly and appropriately in translating O To help students work indepen dently by emphasizing pre-c lass work and the use of English-English dictionaries B. ORGANIZATION O The course will require three hours each reading material. The first two hours are devoted to the new profess ional words, idiomatic expression and important language points. The third hour is devoted to the reading material: analysis of the theme, structure, style, and translate the reading material into Chinese properly. C. SOURCE OF THE READING MATERIALS The reading materials are selected from Lockhart and Wiseman (Introduction
