Background Information Santa claus. also called st. Nick. Saint Nicolas or Father Christmas, is usually represented as a jolly fat old man with a white beard and red suit. On Christmas Eve. the whole house is quiet, everyone is fast asleep and the stockings hang empty as receptacles for presents waiting for Santa Claus to arrive. It is commonly assumed that Santa wont come to a house where the children are up. This myth is, in fact, used to get the excited children into bed so that the real-life "Santas" can fill the stockings with presents and put them under the tree
